How be safe from Corona Omicron BF7

18 December 2021, New Delhi

The World Health Organization today underscored the urgent need for increased public health and social measures to stop the further spread of the novel COVID-19 variant Omicron, which has been confirmed in seven countries in the South-East Asia region.

"Countries must take the tested medical and societal steps to stop the spread of Omicron. The least protected and those who are most at danger must continue to be our main concerns, according to Dr. Poonam Khetrapal Singh, regional director for WHO's South-East Asia Region.

The degree to which Omicron is transmissible, how well vaccinations and earlier SARS-CoV-2 infections guard against it, and how virulent the variant is in comparison to other variants all play a significant role in the total threat it poses.

The Regional Director stated that based on what is currently known, Omicron appears to spread more quickly than the Delta form, which has been blamed for the recent rise in cases worldwide.

She added that there is still insufficient information on the clinical severity linked to Omicron but that newly emerging data from South Africa suggests an increased risk of re-infection with Omicron. To properly comprehend the clinical profile of patients infected with Omicron, more information is required. In the upcoming weeks, additional details are anticipated.
